Tom Stephens   Bio

Tom plays guitar and harmonica, writes a song now and then and probably drives way to fast... He's been a roofer, a radio disc jockey, a sales man, a welder, a day laborer, a Father, a Husband, a shade-tree mechanic, a Systems Engineer, a maintenance man, a painter, a truck driver and a good friend...Started into music at age 14 by learning to play the drums. Thanks to his brother, Rick, he also learned to play guitar. His first song was House of the Rising Sun. By the time he was 16 he was playing drums in cover bands in East Texas, performing at parties, school functions, VFW halls and the occasional weekend club gigs throughout East Texas, Southern Oklahoma and Western Louisiana. His interest in guitar rapidly grew after moving to the Dallas, Texas area. He would soon be playing solo gigs as a guitarist/singer in various Dallas nightclubs. After being picked up by booking agents, he spent many years on the road performing his brand of country blues throughout the South Eastern and Southern States. By his own admission, he made a bunch of money but pissed it all away on beer and other things, women and partying. He made a lot of friends, a few enemies and has enough stories to write a good book. He has been able to put some of this diverse background into song. Although he does write songs, he still likes to do covers of some of his favorite writers. Some of these include Guy Clark, Willis Alan Ramsey, Towns Van Zandt, Robert Johnson, Kris Kristofferson, Steven Stills, Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie and Toy Caldwell. Just to name a few...

Oh BTW, he is the writer of "Boxcar # 9"
